NEET MDS 2026 Counselling: Where Round 1 Stands and What Comes Next

NEET MDS counselling doesn't wait for anyone to finish reading the notification twice. Round 1 seat allotment for 2026 is already out, and the reporting window closes September 1 — here's exactly where things stand and what's coming in the rounds after it.

Round 1: where things stand right now

Round 1 registration and payment ran August 18–23, with choice filling open the same window and choice locking from August 22–23. The seat allotment result was declared on August 26, and the reporting period for allotted candidates runs August 27 through September 1. If you were allotted a seat in Round 1, this reporting window is the deadline that matters most — miss it, and the seat can be forfeited.

Round 2: the schedule to plan around next

For anyone who didn't register in time, didn't get a seat, or wants to try for an upgrade, Round 2 registration and payment opens September 3–8. Choice filling runs September 5–9, with a shorter window than Round 1, so the choice list is worth preparing in advance rather than building it from scratch once the window opens. The seat allotment result for Round 2 is expected September 11, with reporting from September 12–18.

Round 3 and the stray round

Round 3 follows the same pattern: registration September 22–27, choice filling through September 28, results September 30, and reporting October 1–8. Seats that remain vacant after Round 3 move into the stray round — registration October 12–14, results October 16, and reporting October 17–24. Each successive round has fewer seats and less room to be selective, which is the main argument for taking Round 1 or Round 2 choices seriously rather than treating the later rounds as a safety net.

Choice filling and locking: what's reversible and what isn't

Choices can be reordered any number of times until the locking window opens. Once choices are locked — or once the filling window closes without locking, since MCC treats an unlocked list as final at the deadline — the order is what gets used for allotment. A common mistake is filling colleges in a wishful order rather than a realistic one; if a higher preference gets allotted, MCC does not let you decline it and try again in the same round without consequence for future rounds under the current rules, so the order needs to reflect what you would actually accept, not just what you'd prefer in an ideal world.

What to keep ready before registration

• Original BDS degree certificate and internship completion certificate
• State and permanent registration certificates
• Category and domicile certificates, if applicable
• A realistic, pre-ranked list of colleges before the choice-filling window opens, not after
